Iberia Parish Career Center will showcase its programs, rangingfrom barbering to welding, at a one-of-a-kind public open house onThursday.
In recognition of National Career and Technical Education month,the facility has invited the entire Iberia Parish community toattend the event to meet its staff and some of its approximately700 students.
Being the only vocational high school in the parish servingWestgate High, New Iberia Senior High, Jeanerette Senior High,Loreauville High and Delcambre High, the school offers courses inauto mechanics, auto body repair, auto detailing, outdoor powerequipment, lawn care, certified nursing assistant, first responder,medical terminology, food service worker, carpentry, welding,building maintenance, barbering, custom sewing, occupationalreadiness and the high school GED.
“We invite anyone interested to see what we do here,” IPCCprincipal Chris Broussard said. “We’ve had open houses before, butthis is the first time we’ve invited everyone in thecommunity.”
Parents, students, local businesses, Greater Iberia Chamber ofCommerce members, Iberia Development Foundation members and On Tapmembers are urged to attend.
Instructors and students of certain courses will be on hand fordemonstrations and class projects will be on display.
“This is an opportunity for the public school system to showcasean area that often goes unnoticed by the public and the community,”Michael Judice, assistant superintendent of administration,said.
Students that may not yet be of high school age and theirparents are encouraged to attend, Broussard said.
“It’s never too early to start thinking about what’s down theroad,” he said. “This might open their eyes to some new things. Wehave so many options here that may help them choose theircareers.”
“It’s all a matter of just opening some doors to them,” hesaid.
