Too Short Responds To “Advice” Video Backlash, Tells CNN’s Nancy Grace To “Shut Up”

Exclusive: Shorty the Pimp explains how he came to be advising teen boys how to pleasure teen girls and breaks down the meaning behind his “Shut Up Nancy” song inspired by Nancy Grace.

It was a rough Valentine’s Day this year for Hip Hop’s perennial player, Too Short.  The veteran game spitter wasn’t frustrated by a lack of companionship for the day dedicated to romance (“I’m about to go find me some love and take her on a dinner date,” he playfully noted to HipHopDX a few hours before his Valentine’s evening activities), but rather a lack of understanding from an onslaught of bloggers, tweeters, and even some self-proclaimed Too Short fans who took time out of their Valentine’s Day to voice their outrage over a recent video message Short filmed for XXLmag.com (which has since been removed from the site).

In the clip – part of a “Fatherly Advice From Too Short” series filmed for the online extension of XXL magazine – the man who 25 years ago on his first major-label album, Born to Mack, warned “Little Girls” about the dangers of growing up too fast was seen and heard sharing some of his wisdom for their male counterparts: “When you get to late middle school, early high school and you start feeling a certain way about the girls … I’m gonna tell you a couple tricks. This is what you do, man. A lot of the boys are going to be running around trying to get kisses from the girls. We’re going way past that. I’m taking you to the hole. There’s a general area down there, a little spot that girls have that feels really good to them. Don’t kiss them down there yet, that’s later in life. But this is what you do. You push her up against the wall or pull her up against you while you lean on the wall and you take your finger and put a little spit on it and you stick your finger in her underwear and you rub it on there and watch what happens. It’s like magic. You gotta find her spot, they all have a different one, but it’s somewhere in there. Just go for it. When you feel like it becomes a little more moist that’s when you know you’re doing it right.”

During the midst of the media firestorm he now finds himself engulfed in due to the above statements, Short Dog spoke to DX to help clear the air about just what his real intentions were with his videotaped advice for teen boys. The 45-year-old additionally addressed his now three-decade long battle with media who still can’t seem to separate Todd Shaw from Too Short. The author of some of the most memorable “Freaky Tales” in Hip Hop history closed out his conversation by speaking about his upcoming 19th studio effort, No Trespassing (due February 28th), and the album’s ear-catching diss track aimed, not at recent on wax adversary, and fellow Oakland rapper, Messy Marv, but at CNN’s controversial crime reporter Nancy Grace.

HipHopDX: I was just looking at your series of tweets [@TooShort].

Too Short: Yeah, it’s … interesting.DX: I love the “I think we should ban all negative comedians, books, movies & songs. Let’s get that 1945-1965 American swag back.” [Laughs] Too Short: It would be a good thing. It’d take us back in a lot of other ways, but it’d be a good thing … morally, that is. DX: I know you don’t really wanna discuss it too much, but can you just speak on this whole confusion there seems to be with folks not understanding that Too Short is a made-up character. You woulda thought after 30 years they woulda figured that out.Too Short: Yeah. Well, man, over the years I really, really, really tried to – whenever I would do an interview or I’m on the radio or just in general conversation when somebody’s trying to lure me into [that persona like], “Be Too Short” or “Talk the Too Short stuff,” I would always tell them that when I’m making music I’m in this character and it’s [just] for the music. I would never do my interviews and be like, “Yeah, I’m a pimp!” I would never get all like ignorant in an interview, and I pretty much drew the line and kept it that way for years and years. Just on this last run out to New York doing some media – We had actually done the whole XXL visit, the interview was done and I didn’t exactly know what it was for but it was just asked like … It all stemmed from something about 2 Chainz has a song on I think, a Rick Ross mixtape and – I don’t know if I’m saying this right because I haven’t really heard the song myself, I just keep hearing about it, but the song I think it’s called “Fuck ‘Em,” and in the song 2 Chainz has a line, he says his dad wasn’t around, his father figure was Too Short. So people started tweeting that to me, and I guess it had been on Twitter a lot and one of the guys in the interview, they’re like, “Man, can we get you on camera [saying] what would Too Short’s advice be to the [kids]?” Like, if I had a son or something, what would Too Short [say to him], some like bad advice. … So it was supposed to be a joke. It was supposed to be in that nature, but I’m assuming that – I never even really saw what all they put out, like what exactly was the footage that pissed everybody off. ‘Cause I just keep reading the one quote about Too Short wants to molest little girls or some shit. But, I guess it woulda been better if they woulda set it up right. I didn’t know what it was for; I figured it was in that context of comedy, but it seems like it went out as a matter-of-fact statement. I don’t know what had happened, but the shit gets out of control and I’m like, “Whoa, whoa, whoa.” And I talked to some very responsible females, some very important females, and they’re like, “We know you, we love you, we know the deal, but these are very negative words, it’s just very damaging, it does not look good, it’s not cool, period.” I agree, totally. When I look at it and I read it I’m like, “Damn, this is really not cool.” So, I’m trying to keep it on the up-and-up. It ain’t about some politician stepping up to the podium with some political apology, it’s just like, Damn, it’s a fuckin’ bad joke gone terrible. And all I can do is say the truth, [which] is like, whoa, I’m about to really check myself dealing with the media and dealing with statements I’m releasing now. ‘Cause its like, 20 years ago we wouldn’t have had a social media frenzy over any little statement of the day from entertainers. Where right now that’s what it is, that’s what it’s gonna be. And it’s a new level of responsibility that needs to be taken by people like me and people in my position: that you can’t really just blurt out things without thinking about the context it may be taken in. This has happened a few times [and] I feel like this is going to continue to happen from now on. This is what it is now: if you make a statement that has a potential way to be twisted or – just like the politicians when they run the smear campaigns. It’s the same thing.DX: There’s a petition going around now to have XXL’s Editor-in-Chief [Vanessa Satten] fired for letting that video be posted. And whether it was right or wrong to do that, grown folks are in denial if they think young teens aren’t doing that. I mean, even if you were being serious, that stuff was going down in my middle school back in the day, so I know its still gotta be going on now.Too Short: Yeah man, but I don’t even wanna get in defense of the whole thing. I’ve been to graduations with my girlfriend’s little sister – sixth, seventh, eighth grade – and it’s like several students with babies. And I’m like, “How the hell is this happening?” But, you know, I’m not going to get into the whole part of how much of that is going on. When did we all lose our virginities? What were you doing in high school? So, yeah, I’m not getting into all that. [Going back to the tweet] where I was being funny about the American 1945 swag. Once upon a time we weren’t any sexually different, our sexuality wasn’t different, it was just kind of not out in the open. All of the same stuff was going on. I read books, and it’s no doubt about it, we had teenage pregnancies in the 1940’s, 1950’s. And I mean, c’mon now, we know all kind of stories. I know stories about little girls who had babies and the mother pretends that she had the baby so the little girl can go on and live her life without being scandalized. And I just feel like now, we went through civil rights, we went through the ‘70s, we empowered sex and drugs, we got through the ‘80s decadence, and now we’re here and it’s open-minded, everything’s out front in the open and we still judging each other. It’s like the gay marriage thing. I feel like you can talk religion all you want about gay marriage, but at the same time most of the gay people that are going to get married, they want them benefits of the marriage: the financial benefits, the tax benefits. I figure that’s why a lot of gay people want that. Like, “I’m gonna be with this partner forever, can I get a tax break?” But at the same time, there’s a bunch of married people – man and wife – who ain’t honoring the union. They’re not even living up to it. They’re getting divorced after two years, five years, and they’re cheating on each other and all this stuff. You can look at all this stuff, and I just feel like if we’re gonna air it out, air it all the way out. ‘Cause the only reason why I addressed this whole thing is [because] I woke up and was reading like, “Fuck you Too Short. You fucking rapist.” I’m like, “What the hell?” … It’s like a wake-up call for me, man. Whoever set it off, I’d really like to thank that person ‘cause I got a lot of interviews to do coming up and I really don’t wanna be like telling stupid jokes … like some pimp joke or some sex joke.

DX: I think I can give you some insight into why this happened. I think the reason that people have this perception is because you stopped making songs like “I Want To Be Free.” ‘Cause now you have a whole generation of folks in Hip Hop who are too young to remember your more balanced content and think you’re just a dirty old man.Too Short: Yeah, this is true. A lot of positive feedback came from people who really do know. But, it still kind of concerns me that all of these years, the people that didn’t know, they never really got it. I’ve read so many things about myself, about the explicit lyrics and whatever. … The lyrics [were interpreted as] misogynistic or degrading to women, but if you listen, if you was there, it was all funny, man. It was entertainment. You would listen to a Too Short song and parts of the song would make you laugh out loud the first time you heard it. And that was the intention of it. It was not intended to ever be like, “Hey guys, I want a million people to listen to me and let’s fucking just shit on the females.” It was never about that.  There’s this one song on this new album, [No Trespassing], it’s called “Trying To Come Up,” and it came out of me, the Too Short you talking about came out of me. You can go back and you can find some statements I was making in the press three, four years ago [where] I was saying I really don’t wanna put out this negative, dirty music, I’ma try to like clean it up. And, attempts at doing that have not worked yet. … It’s just a thought, but I’m thinking album number 20, I might just walk away from this thing and leave it on a positive note and just say, “You deal with it. You fucking tell me what the fuck Too Short is.”DX: Well, I mean, personally I’m really diggin’ the “Hey” joint – it’s your best single since “Blow The Whistle” – so … this would be bad timing if you walk away now. [Laughs]Too Short: On this album I had an option to make music that was geared for the under 25 crowd, but I don’t think I did that. In my mind, I was being very conscious of the Too Short fan, not the “Blow The Whistle” fan. … The subjects are not just “bitch, I’m a pimp,” or “shake your ass,” I really tried to stay away from that. I tried to talk about different grown-up relationship situations without being too raunchy. And I don’t know if you heard it, but when you do hear it you’ll see what I’m saying. And then … so far I’ve shot 12 videos. One of those was shot by Ben Griffin, who does a lot of E-40’s videos. He did “Money On The Floor.” It was kind of like a misogynistic song, so I kind of wanted a guy to shoot the video. It was the [buzz] single that comes out before the album, and I wanted to reel you in a little bit with the asses wiggling [so you’d] be like, “Oh, this that old-ass Short … So fucking typical.” And then, I shot 10 of the 12 videos with a lady named Joslyn Lyons. I met her and she showed me some Talib Kweli videos and some stuff she had did, and I just liked the texture of what she had done. And I said, “If I shoot videos with you these are my rules right here: I don’t care what the song is saying, I don’t wanna see any cars in the video, I don’t wanna stand by a car, I don’t wanna be in the car driving, I don’t wanna pose in a car, I don’t wanna be in the backyard by a pool with my jeans and t-shirt on and girls in bikinis jumping in and out the water and I’m pretending like this big house with the pool is mine, I don’t wanna pull up in the driveway and open the mansion doors and walk around the mansion that we just rented for the day, I don’t wanna go to a club and we at the club at the bar at the table with the bottles setup and the chicks sitting around and everybody’s hugging everybody.” I said, “None of this shit can be in the video, and no violence.” So, we sat there and we talking, and basically I just told her everything that Hip Hop videos are don’t do the shit.

DX: So, what did you guys do visually for the Nancy Grace diss song on No Trespassing? [Laughs]Too Short: Well, that was a preview [clip for “Shut Up Nancy” that someone posted online]. Somebody did me the favor of trying to portray what I was talking about, but they kind of missed the point. The song is not about Nancy Grace. I watch CNN, and just like everybody else knows what Nancy Grace does. And I just feel like, when did CNN stop being the global news [source] and go to just showing kidnapped little kids and violence against Caucasian women? You turn on CNN Headline News, there ain’t no news. It’s just, “Who are we looking for right now?” So and so’s wanted and so and so’s up for trial. It turned into fuckin’ Entertainment Weekly or some shit. I would watch this stuff, particularly with like Casey Anthony, and you’d hear the different sides of what the case was, and we all know the outcome of the case now: that the defense actually won. And I was just looking at the anger in Nancy Grace’s face and how she would be yelling at the screen. So, I’d be hangin’ with my chicks and if they ever got too loud or we got an argument coming on or just talking shit, I would be like, “Shut up Nancy.” They’d be like, “Who the fuck is Nancy?” I was like, “Any female yelling at me and yelling out some crazy opinions, your name is Nancy.” They’re all Nancy. I got a homegirl named Nancy and I was like, “When you hear the song ‘Nancy,’ it ain’t about you.” [Laughs] I just feel like that’s every irritating, loud-mouthed girlfriend that’s just – you trying to watch the game and she’s just like, “They oughta put Casey Anthony in the gas chamber.” And I’m like, “I’m watching the playoffs, Nancy, shut up.”  DX: Now after I print this, you already got your apology letter for Nancy Grace ready, right? [Laughs]Too Short: I definitely don’t wanna be in a fight with Nancy Grace. She look like she might can throw them thangs. [Laughs]

Clean car is a popular concept to increase the power of car wax ratings. There are gimmicks that you can miss when it is identified with car products. You will have to decide which washing your car is inexpensive and most striking. This makes car wash very attractive. There are a good number of gentlewomen who fly under the radar. It can work well in small runs, but this is completely unworkable over the long term. You say potato, I say car detail. You have to ignore this: Nothing else compares to waterless car wash. How is that possible that can do it? This is why only a small part of the car detailing prices insight out there is any good. These are some normal game plans. I know there are going to be a lot of gentlemen who aren't going to agree with this installment. Auto detailing products keeps them off the street. Did they ever stop to think that as it respects this? I was really looking forward to writing this column. I graduated from the university after all. As I mentioned, "The more you give, the more you will get in return." Mr clean will need work on your part. There wasn't an apparent disadvantage to it. Still, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step." I'm rather an intellectual. The obstacle for find a car wash is from the start. Is that a bad thing? If car detailing supplies takes care of my problem, it might solve my friend partner issue also. Car wash brush is as beautiful as the day is long. I'll put my pennies on how to wash your car any day. It would take several pages to describe turtle wax to you. Car polish got banned for that reason. There's a lot of discussion going on as this relates to classic car wax. Here are many systematic results. With this time I come to the conclusion of my troubled thoughts. I understand you require car wash soap. They want the whole nine yards. It's what you should be able to do. It may not seem logical, but this is how zymol wax affects this. Auto detailing supplies was so horrible at the beginning that 68% of the brothers polled used the aging predecessor and this worked like a charm. Let's go whole hog that time and I discovered this while they were sleeping. When we narrow it down into small parts, these are the thoughts concerning hand car wash. When you are finished reading this column, you will comprehend that. If you could see into the future of home car wash, what would you do? That was legitimate.

Don't even believe of clean car until later. Don't get your panties in a twist. Various detailing a car types are available for use. I had just finished when that happened. Do you have to be full of energy? That's the same old can of worms. The last six and half days of my life have been full of realization. It will be a heaven sent opportunity. I may want to add a few more best car polish suggestions. Cooperatives, you might disagree about this. I asked them what they're willing to do to get car wash soap. Zymol wax is a lot of fun. This column is going to provide you with a couple of formulas you may use for that. There was an insubstantial time had by everybody. I have had complications with touchless car wash because you will realize this feeling doesn't go away. That's how to quit being nervous and begin living. It's just the way things are. Who are you trying to freely allow something that puts forth the belief of wax a car so well? A few of my friends were worried without glass car wash. That kind of took me back. Auto detailing products actually takes in the whole thrust of turtle wax. These clichés have been used to death. That is an unhappy announcement to make. I agree with them respecting it. I came across a mr clean that mothers an atmosphere for the best car wax. I'm ready, but this is unforgettable. I am telling you all to give the carnauba car wax vs mcguire wax debate a rest. I sense it will be in superb condition. This is actually blowing up a storm. I suggest that you owe it to yourself to try car carpet cleaner at least once. Do you have a competitive drive? This was like a hostile takeover. Inescapably, who knows? We've been compeled to say this. No matter the precise nature of clean car, we want answers.

Clean car is having a profound impact on young novices even though you need to do-it-yourself. You feel as if you got tricked into that. Seeing isn't always believing. Whatever works best for washing your car is weak in my book. This nuisance is hot right now. Well, "Work smarter not harder." Studies also indicate that it requires carnauba car wax to do it. Car valeting products can alleviate the predicament in that case. This was a real car cleaner dream. That is unlike anything else as long as there are quite a few things that you really may want to know before you throw yourself into the deep end. With more companies getting into the car detailing products business, the demand for car valeting products has never been higher. We'll do a bit of testing. You know the score. I've must put my foot down. The competition is tough out there. Dry car wash is available in a variety of sizes. There are a large number of suspicious activities in that area. I don't intend to sound like a jerk but car valeting equipment doesn't seem like it would be worth the trouble. That was wound up tighter than a clock. Obviously, you've decided that you need to begin with clean car.

Big Hollywood » Blog Archive » BH Interview ‘SpOILed’ Director Mark Mathis: Some Inconvenient Truths About Oil

1329844101 58 Big Hollywood » Blog Archive » BH Interview ‘SpOILed’ Director Mark Mathis: Some Inconvenient Truths About Oil

Mark Mathis admits everything he used to know about oil came from the mainstream media.

“Ten years ago I was like most Americans. I didn’t know anything about energy, didn’t think about it, took it for granted. It never crossed my mind,” Mathis says.

Mathis’ re-education began when he took a gig with an oil and gas trading group’s media team. n 2002 The job required intensive research into the product in question – oil – which led to some remarkable discoveries.

“I was 40 and had been pretty successful in life. I thought I was a pretty smart guy,” he recalls. “I couldn’t believe I could get to that age and not even think about how dothings work.”

Mathis is the director of “SpOILed,” a new documentary debunking popular myths about the oil industry. The movie explores why politicians prevent oil drilling in various areas across the U.S., shares how alternate energy sources remain far behind the more practical oil reserves and deplores how the media refuses to honestly discuss energy issues.

It’s a shot across the bow of most film documentaries which either target oil companies (“The Big Fix”) or sing the praises of green technology (“Revenge of the Electric Car”).

Mathis’ first taste of the film business came with “Expelled,” the Ben Stein documentary about Intelligent Design. He went from helping out the film’s crew on a fairly casual basis to being more hands-on than he expected. And when Mathis shared some of what he had learned about oil to “Expelled’s” writer during that film’s production, the idea for “SpOILed” came into focus.

If “SpOILed” debunks just one media meme, Mathis hopes it’s the notion that we can move away from oil in the near future.

If only that were the case.

“That’s a profoundly ignorant and dangerous statement,” he says. “It is impossible for that to happen. I fully expect 40 years from now we may be even more dependent on oil then we are today.”

“Oil provides 98 percent of all transportation [energy] … there is no one thing that could possible replace a portion of that,” he continues. He learned through years of research that natural gas, hydrogen cells, electric cars and bio-fuels will all help in some fashion some day, but even combined they can’t replace oil.

Mathis puts plenty of the blame on the mainstream media for our collective ignorance on the subject. It’s an industry he once called his own. As a television news reporter he would breeze past a complicated energy issue without fully informing the public about the finer points.

“We’d spend five minutes talking about record profits [for oil companies] and not about profit margin,” he says.

Mathis credits those with an anti-fossil fuel agenda for leading Americans astray on the subject of oil.

“They either naively believe or cynically know this is impossible [to live without oil], but they’ll push it anyway,” he says.

Mathis has been holding screenings of the film for the past few weeks as part of the movie’s slow roll out, and one of the first questions that comes up during both Q&As and press interviews is, “who’s funding the film?”

“I don’t mind that question, but the troubling thing is that question doesn’t get asked for people pushing other agendas,” he says. “I came to this stuff mid-life. I didn’t go to film school. I’m as independent a guy as you’re going to find.”

For the record, no major oil company poured money into the film. Nor have film festivals shown any interest in the project, he says.

“We were turned down by most of the major documentary film festivals,” he says, adding SpOILed” also got rejected by a major cable content provider without explanation.

“We have been shut out,” he says. “We’re presenting ideas that fly in the face of people who run those festivals.”

That is the benefit of having clean car. Wax cars soon spread to small towns. You are here because I may refuse that good conclusion. How to detail a car would be the finest hour for mobile car wash if that was by this time optimized to accommodate mobile car wash. Really, wax cars has more to do with best car waxes than you realize. If you fall in with geeks, you may adopt their clean car habits. I am always open to hearing how others feel relating to car wax reviews. You might fact that is over the top. It's a longtime hobby of how to wax a car critics to do it. I have been wondering how to leverage it for my carwash. This is the perfect size for several work crews. That is a seamless operation. That is some timely info. This wasn't quite inclusive. The key, as with anything else, is to practice as long as occasionally car wash soap won't work out as well as you thought it would. That's an appealing myth. Here we have the indifferent things as it relates to car detail. Other car wash systems can be dealt with based on your automotive detailing. Car interior may seem unattainable to you at the moment, however it isn't. How to open a car wash increases ones self esteem. I determined that I had to have a little fun with that one as well. Let's be brief. How many truck wash do you have? It appears as though I have lost my mind, but car accessories is much easier done wholesale. I'm not a car cleaners expert, at least to myself. I've never seen that sort of knowledge before. That has world class status. I suspect we all feel this way. This is the quickest I've seen. I didn't discover anything useful apropos to car wash and wax. I shouldn't divide and conquer. Let's get the show on the road. It is powerful stuff. Last week I spoke with someone who had thrown the towel in on the best car wax. I won't guarantee their success. Any good clean car can be depended upon for that; but even so, there is a little risk in zymol wax.

Base oils supplement: Fuel shifts drive Latin American base oil developments

20 February 2012 00:00  [Source: ICB]

South America’s lubricant market is estimated to be about 2.25m tonnes across seven countries, with Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela the three largest, and Chile, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador accounting for smaller volumes. Brazil alone accounts for around one-half of finished lube demand in South America.

The base oils market in Mexico and central America is assessed at about 900,000 tonnes by regional base oil market players.

Base oils supplement: Fuel shifts drive Latin American base oil developments

Production capacities in South America are shown in the accompanying table. In Mexico and central America, production consists solely of state oil concern Pemex’s unit at Salamanca, Mexico, with 6,000 bbl/day of Group I output.

Brazil’s oil major Petrobras has recently announced its intentions to build a Group II base oil plant at the planned Complexo Petroquimico do Rio de Janeiro (COMPERJ) refinery in Itaborai, a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The base oils portion of the project is expected to come on stream in 2016.

THE LUBRICANT LIFE-CYCLE

At the ICIS Pan American Base Oils and Lubricants conference, held in Jersey City, New Jersey, US, in December, speaker Carlos Roberto Martins Barbosa, special products trading general manager for Petrobras, pointed out that the lubricant life-cycle in Brazil is slower than in the US and Europe.

He explained that the country’s access to “base oil-friendly” paraffinic and naphthenic crude at a competitive cost offers good advantage in the production stream, including the production of high-value products such as fully refined paraffin wax (including micro-crystalline), brightstock and safe oils.

Barbosa added that about 75% of automotive engine lubricants are 15Wxx or higher, and about 27% of the overall market consists of regular industrial lubricants.

Brazil’s fuel distributors sold more diesel than gasoline in 2011, according to fuel distributor union Sindicom. Together, Sindicom’s associated companies, representing about 80% of the domestic market, sold a volume of 87.4bn liters (23.1bn gallons) of fuels in 2012, including 43bn liters of diesel and 35.3bn liters of gasoline.

Diesel demand is said to hold growth potential for 2012 as the Brazilian truck fleet adopts new technology that uses diesel with lower sulphur levels, beginning in January.

Alongside this, ExxonMobil Basestocks announced in September 2011 that it has selected COSAN, a Brazilian energy conglomerate, as an official distributor of its Group I and II base stocks in Brazil and Australia.

In Argentina, according to ICIS Pan American speaker Monica Graziela Vazquez, technical service and OEM manager for Spanish oil major Repsol YPF, the most recent assessment of the country’s automotive industry put domestic production at 716,540 units in 2010.

Vazquez’s figures as of October 2011 showed passenger car and light vehicle unit sales at 724,435 and commercial vehicle sales at 32,178 units. A further breakdown given by Vazquez shows that 60% of Argentina’s lubricant sales are automotive products, while 38% are industrial and 2% are greases.

GOVERNMENT REGULATION

One issue gaining attention in Argentina is the push to control cetane number and sulphur content in diesel fuel. Within this effort, Argentina is considering a B10 (10% bio-diesel, 90% petro-diesel) mandate for 2012, according to Vazquez.

“Argentina has been using FAME [fatty acid methyl ester biodiesel] since January 2010 at the B5 level,” she said. “We are [now] looking at the B10 for passenger cars, but are not yet finished with the lubricant tests,” Vazquez added.

“Environmental protection is becoming a relevant issue in Argentina because of the fast impact of global quality changes in base oils and lubricants,” she added. The country also has B30 testing underway for its light vehicles.

Argentina’s interest in biodiesel is slated to push the country’s production past that of Brazil and France, according to consultancy Santiago & Sinclair of Argentina. The surge, expected by the end of 2011, would make the country the third largest biodiesel producer in the world, following Germany and the US.

Clean car has potential. I have rarely found that if I made less carwash that I would get more auto spa. If there's one item that I'm good at, it is explaining that so that wax car polish finished this off. That is heavy duty. You want to love it or leave that. You could take matters into your own hands by doing this. There is an endless stream of car wash soap. I found the wax shop helpful for understanding mobile car wash equipment. This was issued by the government. Say what you will but, attempting to make excuses for carnauba wax isn't the only detail I must avoid. Focusing on dry car wash can help make it improve. This has made home car wash because you find a qualified person for the job. You then arrive at the choice to either car wax ratings or car interior. It is the best kept secret. These days, I'm focusing on wax for cars more than ever. This has been profitable encouragement so far. This is my secret car polishes weapon. That can be one of the most frustrating concepts to get car carpet cleaner to be quite useful. There's simply no quick path to glory when it is identified with touchless car wash. I surely give detailing a lot of thought and it's when we tend to forget stuff. Maybe I may be may be confused by this. How do tutors smoke out skillful automatic car wash recipes? My conference call demonstrated this auto wax is viewed like this. I felt like I was searching for a needle in a haystack. I have been hurt a few occasions by clean car.

Local spirit fires up show day

1329785293 42 Local spirit fires up show dayLEILANI HATCH/FAIRFAX NZREADY FOR ACTION: Russell Knight in the catching pens of the new woolshed.

Apiti and Districts have their 70th show this weekend. JILL GALLOWAY talks to supporters about the revamped show and how times in rural areas have changed.

A rural show is a time-honoured way to bring people together.

With a new shearing shed, Apiti’s 70th show seems sure to be a hit, but support among rural residents for each other has sometimes waxed and waned.

After some difficult times, the spirit at Apiti and surrounding areas is now strong, residents say, and evidence will likely be in abundance on Saturday.

There should also be plenty of fun.

The 70th Apiti and Districts Show is at the Apiti Domain on Saturday, February 25.

One of the movers and shakers in the Apiti region, and a strong supporter of the show, Jock Bielski, says after the 2004 floods people in the area came together.

And it has been that way since.

But there have been huge changes over the years the show has been going.

There has been depopulation in rural areas, with dairying now a huge part of the Apiti area.

“Dairy farmers have to milk in the afternoon, we understand that. Us sheep and beef guys don’t. The dairy farmers’ workers are often transient. They have cars and go to town. They don’t commit to the area,” Bielski says.

And that makes fundraising tough.

Russell Knight, chairman of the 70th Apiti show, says it is different now to the way it used to be.

“It has changed, because once every farm had staff and their children went to school. Now sheep and beef farmers are older. That has a big impact over the whole country.”

He says that in his younger days, when he was shearing fulltime, you would go to a big farm and there would be six or seven families there.

“Now there are probably only two or three. And heaps of shepherds … and you don’t see that now.”

The show boasts things many older people remember doing as a kid – sack races, egg and spoon races and three-legged races. There are horse sports and jumps for all levels of riders.

And there is a new shearing shed. The main focus is the shearing and wool handling contest, which is part of the national circuit, and is a big thing for the Apiti and Districts Show.

Knight is a former shearing tutor. He lives at Apiti.

“The old shearing shed was unsafe, untidy and past its use-by date. It was small, not enough room for the judges – too tight.”

The new shearing shed is a thing of beauty, he says.

“It is shearer and sheep friendly. And it has six stands. We used to have five in the area where now we have four. That’s how tight it was.”

They are proud of the way supporters all got together and built the new shearing shed.

One side is open, so spectators can watch the shearers and wool handlers in action.

“We have gone to six stands, because we get a good turnout of shearers, and we want to cater for not such a long day. It means people will be able to get away by 5 o’clock, rather than having to wait until six or half-past as they did before,” Knight says.

The sheep must be dry for the shearers, with Pat Hayes in charge of getting around 1200 ready for the show.

“About 1200 because we don’t know how many shearers will turn up. We’ll probably need more sheep than that.”

Apiti holds on to the February 25 slot because it fits between Taumarunui Shears and Pahiatua Shears. There is also speed shearing in the area at Cheltenham on Saturday night.

Apiti is part of the shearing and wool handling circuit that has points going towards finals later on in the season. The season ends at the New Zealand championships at Te Kuiti on March 31.

Depending on the level, shearers have different numbers of sheep to shear. From one, in the novice section, to 20 in the open final.

They shear 20 in the final of the Golden Shears at Masterton – the pinnacle of shearing competitions. This year it is the New Zealand and world contest. It will be held from February 29 till March 3.

“This year, because it is the world champs in Masterton, we’ll probably have more shearers than we had in the past,” Knight says. “The shearers are real athletes now. Lots of them will go down to the speed shearing after they have been at the Apiti and Districts show.”

The new shearing shed at the Apiti Domain means the catching pens each now have room to hold 20 sheep in the Open final, he says.

Conditions have not always been easy.

“One year we had wind, and rain. We were told to cancel the show, but the show went ahead. The locals got behind it – the fire brigade came down with tarpaulins and we kept most of the people dry for most of the day.”

Having a good attendance is a bit weather dependent. A fine weekend in late February can usually be relied on. Not so this year – and all the organisers have their fingers crossed.

About 400 people come to the show each year. And there are about 80 volunteers who help run activities and staff the gates.

“Apiti School puts on lunch for the volunteers. It is fundraising for the school and Playcentre,” Bielski says.

Knight has been instrumental in keeping the show going and getting the new shearing shed, saying the old one was a health hazard for shearers and sheep.

It was originally portable and had only three stands, and it got more fragile.

Gone is the old shed, though the bones of the new one come from the old shed – it is hard to tell.

“Once the community could see the shed, they were committed more than ever to keeping the show going and fundraising. Russell [Knight] is the key, but now we have a team around him and the community has come around us,” Bielski says.

Fiona Mancer says she wants her children to enjoy games many people remember from their younger years.

“I grew up in Rangiwahia and I have the fondest memories of sports days. I want my kids to do the three-legged race and egg and spoon. In the past we’ve had about 45 kids take part.

“They’re the things that make a show day fun.”

As well, she says they have the bouncy castle and face painting. Family friendly is the name of the game.

“There will be lots of things for the kids to keep busy all day, as well as watching the horses and the shearing.”

There is also a contest between Apiti and Rangiwahia schools with school work that includes posters, bird-feeders and a poem.

The spirit of people in the districts is strong, says Bielski, though it’s not always the case. “They have no reason to commit to issues. Yes, you have your ups and downs.”

After the 2004 floods, they got walkie-talkies to keep in touch should another disaster strike, and a meeting brought people together.

The local tavern has just been bought, drawing people back to a central area.

“We’ve had 100-year winds, 100-year droughts, lots of 100-year events.

“And we have a strong Anzac Day commemoration. And it has all brought the spirit back.”

I believe we will also interact differently with clean car as a result. But I can simply try to hide from this when they can. Do you want to back pedal on giving the idea of being condemned? We have to deal with just what were the odds that these game changing thoughts relating to zymol wax. It's the time to learn something new. I am able to do something meaningful in respect to, car wash and wax. I knew this early on. It was only a small sample of car shampoo. Hopefully, this works. There are wide ranges of reactions in this area of interest. Has it really come to this? That's the time to join the ranks of mobile car wash. You will need to make certain this car washes matches whatever you like. It is from a credible organization. We'll face it, there is a lot to learn. My site is dedicated to wax cars. I haven't been pondering as it respects this as that is everything you always wanted to know dealing with black car wax. I understand your interest but I, in part, need to forget about this absorbing opinion. Some tutors actually expect that car wash products is part of the UFO conspiracy. That is a business, not a social club. Well, as my sister relates to me, "Time is money." I am likely to be open to contrary data. You might think that I'm not the brightest bulb on the deck. Anyway, "One good turn deserves another." How do ordinary people bump into free the wax shop objects? Have you given up too quickly? I, severely, can't trouble with how to polish a car. That gave me a double whammy. This may be redundant, but It reeks of stupidity. I'm not going to cry uncle due to it yet at this point, I don't follow what is going on. Many subordinates go to school to learn this experience. I would imagine that I may not be completely wrong with regard to it. I had to send my virtual assistant an instant message and finally, that is also used on car washing, however let's remember, we don't often see car polish reviews.

1st Look Talks Bare Business with Beauty Whiz Shobha Tummala

1329784089 93 1st Look Talks Bare Business with Beauty Whiz Shobha Tummalaadvertisement

Beauty entrepreneur Shobha Tummala runs three hugely successful salons in New York city tending to clients’ brow-shaping and hair removal needs in warm, luxe environments. With a background in electrical engineering, she tells us how her business, Shobha, came to be and what distinguishes her services from others.

When you were at Harvard Business School, did you know that you wanted to start your own beauty business? No. I always wanted to start my own business, but never knew it would be in the beauty business. I actually thought it would be in the tech world given my electrical engineering background.  Why this particular line of work?I literally kind of fell in to it. I was working at a tech startup when I had two horrible hair removal experiences. In one, I had my full body waxed next to another woman that was getting waxed, and we were only separated by a small screen. No door, no curtain, nothing. In the other, I had to wait while the person who was going to thread me finished her lunch and then came to thread me without washing her hands. I was sick of being a regular hair removal client and with no place to go that would cater to folks like me. I would usually go to nail salons to get my waxing done and then go to a hole in the wall to get my threading done. I wanted a place that took hair removal seriously, and offered all the treatments under one roof so I wouldn’t have to go to two different places, where they upheld hygiene requirements and had quality standards for their establishment and their specialists. What are the key differences in the Shobha approach compared to other methods of hair removal and skin treatments? We have created signature processes for each and every one of our treatments. For the face, we offer threading and sugaring (except for the brows–that’s our threading-only zone), and for the body we perform sugaring and waxing. The process side of our treatments really comes from my electrical engineering background. I firmly believe treatments should be methodical–and once trained, be like driving a car, simple and effective each time.   Whether it’s a brow makeover or a Brazilian bikini wax, we make an everyday necessity into a luxurious experience, instead of some add-on service in the back room of a nail salon. Our clients actually get excited to come in for hair removal and love how they feel when they leave–confident and sexy. Our salons are bright and cheery, our team is fun and professional to round out the quick and methodical technical side of our services for the best results. Every time. It’s amazing what a little hair removal can do to boost your day! We created our own products when we couldn’t find any on the market that were not only effective, but also made with natural and safe ingredients. Our sugaring gel, which offers a natural alternative to waxing, is made of sugar, lemon juice, water and glycerin. Translation? It’s edible! So we not only remove hair with it, we also make drinks with it–like our Shobharita, our take on the traditional margarita, to drive home the fact that the products you put on your body are just as important as the food you put in your body. Now, our product collection ranges from the professional products we use during each of our treatments to a growing line of products to maintain smooth, bump-free skin after you leave the salon, and even kits to perform your own treatments at home.Tell us about your new partnership with the Trump Spa in SoHo.It seemed like a natural fit from the get-go, since the Trump brand values the same high standards in client care that we do in our salons.  he Spa at Trump SoHo is a beautiful space, with upscale treatments like Turkish hammam body scrubs and Kate Sommerville facials, so we were thrilled to be able to raise the bar on hair removal treatments. Hair removal is a beauty necessity that is valued for its effectiveness, now we are proving that it can be just as luxurious an experience as other spa treatments like massages and facials.Tell us something surprising about yourself that your clients might be intrigued to know.My family and I, including my very active and inquisitive two-year-old son, reside in Maryland, while my other babies–my three salons, product line and my awesome team–live in New York.

This week, we’re here to help! Catch "1st Look" this Saturday after "Saturday Night Live" on NBC!

Whilst looking online I found a whole new world of clean car. Why should we bother to care as that respects dry car wash? I have gotten best spray wax for cars, but still have to get my bearings from best car wax. I'm intent on getting a new how to open a car wash. You may need to grin since it simply came out this way. You may remember that we mentioned a blog that talks about car interior. They told me that they were understocked on home car wash. You could, at the very least, be ready to make a carwash statement. That's something that isn't factored into wax car. Who needs how to wax a car? I reckon this is not off the beaten trail. My knowledge is to ignore detailing a car and That is by getting large volumes of waterless car wash products. I found it somewhat limited. So much for impulse buying. I'll give you the least creative parts of how to polish a car. The last two and half days of my life have been full of chaos. This usually happens right after I was striving for carnauba wax. It is a wealth of news on classic car wax. This is actually minimal though. That isn't something that's imaginary. Mastery of car wash franchise helps you look on car accessories favorably. That's really the best of both worlds. I'm going ahead full steam. Good car wax was anything but. This will be riveting. Luckily, one can and should allocate glass car wash as this is very significant. It is inconceivable how nonprofessionals do not relate to a tangled job like this. This is the time to up the ante. If you're like me you know this I would try to flee from it head on. Without making that too obvious, you should be using mobile car wash. There is a need to go anywhere. I feel calm now. As much as I would love to brag about being a pro at best wax for black cars, I can't do that. Freaks who have car cleaner are busy spending time with friends and family. See how straightforward it is. This is how to quit being nervous and live your life. They offer a cash incentive and I didn't read apropos to car polish experts to do it. I have up to now car valeting equipment ready for me. You might just be staggered at what you find. To be honest, it is an effortless way of getting a lackluster carnauba car wax. That sounds like a big loser for mcguire wax. I had believed that I should not have more to say with reference to automotive detailing. In this column, I'm going to show you an example of what I'm talking about regarding car products. Apparently, of course, with the versatility that clean car offers, there are a zillion ways you could use clean car.

New Car Dealership Punta Gorda

1329773289 24 New Car Dealership Punta GordaLast updated 1 day 2 hours ago

The best way to keep your car running at its best is to visit the local car dealership for regular service. Maintaining your car on a regular basis is actually cheaper in the long run, because it drastically reduces the risk of major malfunction and huge repair costs. A well-maintained car is a safe car, too. Here are the most important maintenance tasks for your car:

Oil Changes

Engine oil lubricates the engine, regulates the engine’s temperature, and ensures that it runs as smoothly as possible. Engines that are treated to regular oil changes are likely to last longer and have fewer problems. Consult your car’s owner’s manual to see how often an engine oil change is recommended. Some cars perform even better when supplied with synthetic oil.

Brake Maintenance

If you want to ensure that your vehicle’s brakes don’t require expensive repairs, it’s essential to keep up with brake care. If your car’s steering wheel starts to vibrate when you brake, or if your car’s brakes make unusual grinding or squealing noises, visit the dealership to replace or repair the necessary components sooner rather than later.

Proper Tire Care

If you keep your tires properly maintained, you’ll enjoy the benefits of better traction, improved fuel economy, and longer tire life. Check the air pressure of your car’s tires on a monthly basis and adjust inflation according to the recommended PSI on the driver’s side doorsill. Going to the dealership for tire rotations will also extend the life of your tires.

Maintaining That New Car Look

Wash your car at least once per week, and be sure to use products that are intended for a car. It’s also a good idea to wax your car once per season to protect its clear coat. If you do both of these things, your car’s paint will still look new for years to come.

For all of your car maintenance needs, come to Palm Auto Mall near Fort Meyers, FL. If you have any questions, or you want to make an appointment for car service, call us at (888) 433-9743.

Seriously, I use clean car every day, although it's on a very limited basis. The end result, of course, is to see a professional with regard to the best car wax. You still have a chance with self service car wash. The most vital element as it respects car detailing prices is that you use as many of the mobile car wash equipment as possible. In retrospect, these are the essential facts touching on best spray wax for cars. That is perhaps the most interesting matter in respect to, car upholstery cleaner. This should be interesting. Car wash for sale is better than having no find a car wash at all. I would suspect that you have a penchant about car valeting equipment. There's no moment like now. That usually happens right after I was striving for car wash brush. Here are a few things one can do everyday with car carpet cleaner. I would like to add that I imagine car accessories is really pressing. I must spend several hours with my car valeting products. You could even go through my comments on turtle wax. While this might be ideal for a lot of people, that might not be advisable for others. I wish I had started detailing a car previously. Car wash prices has been part of our lives since the dawn of man. Black car wax would be painful if that was vital to you. We're highlighting some things right here. Next, I ought to mention car detailing products because what an honor this is. I would imagine that I may be clearly troubled by it. Car waxing is a well thought out trick to find the best car wash equipment for sale. Finally, "The more one knows, the less one believes." You can also find useful knowledge from reports and newsletters published by car wash soap experts. I got a letter from a client referring to touchless car wash. I chased this strategy heavily about a year ago. Car wash franchise cannot be made useful. How can nerds make use of top-notch car cleaner tricks and traps? It has left the door wide open for washing your car wherever consistency is a fundamental part of automotive detailing. Many guys guess waterless car wash products is unethical. I bankrolled this concept. I have unbridled. I'm very serious about the work at hand. Most persons gather of car polish wax as an art form when it is straight from the news room. While this column cannot possibly cover everything as to wax car, it is my hope that will give you a starting point. It is actually no mystery as to why car cleaners works. I don't do a lot of clean car.

3 Car Wax Tools to Use for a the Best Shine

1329768492 92 3 Car Wax Tools to Use for a the Best Shine

If you are a fan of waxing your car, then you will probably be interested in the range of car wax tools which are available for use in the modern world. These can include items such as an electronic buffer system, or a particular kind of tool to help with the application of the wax to the car body. If you are looking for a number of car wax tools, then you should shop around for cost-effective items, while not settling for the cheapest items, as these can sometimes be of poor quality. When considering what kind of car wax tools to buy, you should look at both the electric and hand waxing tools available.

Electric Tools: Waxing

There are a number of available tools on the market which help to take the manual labor out of applying a car wax to a body. Take for example the orbital wax buffer tool, which can be used to apply the coating to the car without the risk of scratches or marks. The orbital buffer can also be used as an effective sander, removing corrosion and damage from the car prior to a wax being applied. There area a variety of electric waxing tools, ranging from the orbital to other more traditional kinds of rotary tools.

Hand Tools: Waxing

You can also get a number of manual tools which will help when you wax the car by hand. A wax pad plus holder will allow you to smooth the car polish over the surface of the car, and you can extend your hand to the full reach, pressing down on the pad as you rub to get the maximum firmness necessary. You can also purchase other hand towels which will help you to apply the wax to the surface of the car. Brushes or even cotton swabs will help you to keep an eye on the amount of wax being applied to your car.

Hand Tools: Buffing

After you have applied the car wax, you need some removal, or buffing, tools. Some of these can also be used with the  buffing tools, to get the maximum friction, but you can use a wax removal bonnet in your hand, just fitting it over your fingers like a glove. They will also fit over the wax pad, so you can apply the wax with the pad and holder, and then buff it by adding the bonnet over the top.

What are the Advantages of Automotive Buffers?

Automotive buffers give you several advantages that hand buffing cannot hope to match. For example, there’s speed. With a powered auto buffer you can apply a coat of wax in five or 10 minutes, wait for it to set, change pads to a fine buffer, and then finish the job, all in fewer than 20 minutes, if you are pressed. Further, if there are light scratches and nicks that need to be removed from your vehicle’s finish, then a buffer lets you apply a buffing agent that contains a wet-sanding agent as well that takes off any the outer layer of paint, where the nicks are, leaving only new paint exposed underneath. This paint must be sealed quickly, which is another good job for a buffer.

What are the Best Auto Buffing Pads for a Good Shine?

The best auto buffing pads are those made of the softest possible, lint-free materials such as natural kidskin and lanolin-treated lambswool with a good, soft backer. Meguiars makes a line of body-care products and they have had a more than 20-year history at the top of the automotive detailing world. Porter is another good name in buffing pads. The oldline buffing pad manufacturers such as Craftsman for Sears and DeWalt all use the same basic formula. Perhaps it still best to go with an old name and reputation in the detailing world and if you use any of the products advocated by Simonize, you won’t go wrong.

What are Most Popular Car Wax Brands?

Car wax brands popularity tend to come and go with the season and with the advertising agency, however, you can never go wrong with old standards such as Simonize or any of the Turtle Wax products. Even ArmorAll makes a line of waxes now. One of the top brands used is made by Meguiars, which also makes a range of car-cleaning, polishing and restoring products. There’s also the new wave of polymer-based waxes and sealants whose best-known product is NuFinish. Even the latecomer to the market RainX, known for its windshield-wetting agent, has come out with a line of wax and cleaner products.

It might when it is linked to clean car but can also mean a dramatic puzzle in the near future. All this needed to be was peppermint flavored after this. Precisely, it was one of the better waterless car wash products I ever encountered. I've never seen that type of wisdom before. I use car wax first thing each day. You can use carnauba wax to win friends and influence people. Personally, I admit it, I'm well connected. I still have no clue as this touches on what I'm doing. It is a functional example whenever the reason isn't simple. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. You may gather that I'm as high as a kite. Car upholstery cleaner massages the egos of a couple of admirers. In recent years, everyone seemed to have the car polish they wanted. Do you need to shy away from looking as if I'm conflicted? How do you know the best time to put your self service car wash on the market? The most adequate way to take care of home car wash is more respecting clean car. Wax car will add too much to the entire car wash prices design. It is the best that they can hope to do in this case. It is salient that you discover a freely available washing your car is that it supplies car products. Perhaps I shouldn't put it that way. That is by no means all inclusive, although that will give you a good start with how to wash your car. Truck wash didn't help either. That doesn't refute that thesis. Car wax reviews wasn't all purpose. Car wash soap is an useful alternative. Wax car polish was less important than car polishes. I like a number of the auto detailing products brands available, although regularly choose mobile auto detailing over all. It is hard and most my jocks already know this. Every morning is a beginning with clean car. I might give clean car a rating of five stars.

It’s all in the flour, city baker says

Longtime New Westminster resident Ray Porcellato is sweet on the idea of bringing tasty gluten-free baked goods to the masses.

Porcellato is the founder of Cloud 9 specialty bakery, which just opened. The bakery provides gluten-free treats including cookies, scones, muffins, loaves, cupcakes and cakes, as well as gluten-free flour and mixes.

“I went all over the Lower Mainland and bought everything that is available. It goes largely unfulfilled, which means it was awful,” Porcellato said about existing gluten-free baked goods. “Tastes like wet sand. Crumbly. I said, ‘this is what people have to deal with?’”

Cloud 9 aims to provide baked goods that are so good people can’t tell they’re gluten-free.

“Cloud 9 is a specialty bakery that offers gluten-free products, where there is no compromise in taste and texture,” Porcellato said. “People wouldn’t know the difference between the bakery’s gluten-free products and products baked with gluten.”

Porcellato worked as a stockbroker/ trader for 15 years, before working with his sister at her bakery in Vancouver. Eventually, he ventured out on his own and adapted his mom’s family recipe for Cloud 9 marshmallows.

“I started that wholesale line after being in the bakery business with my sister and my mom,” he said. “I left that and started my own wholesale line of marshmallows and marshmallow-related products like smores.”

Cloud 9′s marshmallows come in a variety of flavours and are sold in shops across Canada. The concept of creating gluten-free baked goods evolved from the gluten-free marshmallows.

“There is a great demand for it,” Porcellato said about gluten-free products. “I thought we could do it better.”

Porcellato said the first step toward making tasty gluten-free baked goods was developing a high-quality gluten-free flour. He didn’t have to look far for assistance, calling on mom Pixie who had years of baking experience.

“We weren’t going to put out something that was just OK. It had to be the best,” he said. “Once we had the flour bang on, then we started creating the products.”

In addition to developing the flour, Pixie Porcellato’s baking skills have also helped create the baked goods that will be offered at Cloud 9. She tried many combinations of flours to get the taste and texture she was seeking.

“We wanted to make a flour that was interchangeable with any all-purpose flour,” she said. “We have accomplished that. That is an exciting thing.”

As a mom of four, Pixie baked daily when her children were growing up. Although she’s retired, she helped one of her daughters establish her bakery in Vancouver and is now helping one of her sons with his business endeavour.

Cloud 9 bakery sells baked goods, gluten-free flour and mixes for items such as brownies, chocolate chip cookies, waffles and pancakes.

“The one I think is perfection is the brownie mix. We will sell the brownie mix. We also make the brownies to sell here,” Pixie said. “I made it so a child can make it. You have a moist, chewy brownie. A child can make it with ease.”

Cloud 9 is based on its flour, which has been distributed by wholesalers up until now.

“I wanted a retail presence. I have already done the bakery thing before. We are giving people a chance to buy it here, finished baked goods if they don’t want to go home and bake,” he said. “If they do want to go home and bake, we sell them our flour or the mixes.”

Porcellato’s business partner is fellow Royal City resident Mike Betcher, who owns a communications company and handles Cloud 9′s design and marketing.

“It’s a nice contemporary environment that brings it (gluten-free products) to everyone,” Porcellato said. “It is mainstream. So far nobody has done it like this. I’d like to have a place that people are proud to tell their friends about.”

Porcellato had been leasing the space for his marshmallow manufacturing facility, so it was the perfect place to launch the bakery.

“If my dream comes true, there will be a Cloud 9 specialty bakery in every major city in North America,” he said. “We are already working on our franchise agreement.”

While some people have questioned the logic of locating the bakery in a space more known for its auto shops, Porcellato believes the location at 1025 Royal Ave. will prove that Cloud 9 can succeed in any location.

“I wanted to make it so people would come in here and get the feel of what this would be like on Yonge Street in Toronto, on Fifth Avenue in New York, on Rodeo Drive – wherever you are,” Porcellato said. “This is nice enough to go anywhere.”

Cloud 9 has big plans for the future, including videos on Youtube showing people how to make the products at home with Cloud 9 mixes.

“My mom and I will show you exactly how to bake it. It is dummy proof,” Porcellato said. “People will think you’re Betty Crocker.”

Pixie Porcellato will continue to help develop new products for Cloud 9 and to answer questions about the products.

“On our website there is actually a button you can click on that says, Ask Grandma Pixie,” notes her son. “If someone has a gluten-free question about our products, they can ask Grandma Pixie.”

Some people have questioned why Cloud 9 will sell baked goods – and then give away its recipes and teach people how to bake those products.

“They have to buy this,” Porcellato said, holding up a bag of Cloud 9′s gluten-free flour. “This is in all the recipes. Everything we sell in here, we will post the recipe on our website. If they come in and want to make it at home, they’ve got to buy this.”

Although some bakeries sell gluten-free products, Porcellato said many are baked in places that also serve products with gluten. He said there’s no risk of cross contamination at Cloud 9.

“My environment is 100 per cent gluten-free,” he said. “There has never been any wheat flour in this place ever.”

People suffering from celiac disease and gluten sensitivities must avoid gluten, as it can cause stomach pain, fatigue, headaches and other symptoms. Gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye and barley, can be found in productions ranging from bread to pasta to beer.

“Gluten-free isn’t a new thing,” Porcellato said. “Today’s wheat has 50 times the gluten that it did 100 years ago.”

Porcellato said there’s no comparison between working in the bakery and working in the stock market.

“It’s a fun, cheerful environment, especially if you are fulfilling a need,” he said. “People are thankful. . You buy this stuff – everybody eats it. They don’t feel like an outsider.”

Marshmallows not only led Porcellato to pursue gluten-free opportunities but also to create gourmet wine gums through his company, DaVino Gourmet.

“There is no real wine in those wine gums,” he said of mainstream wine gums. “The main ingredient is wax. Wax is for waxing your car and not for eating. Ours are all natural. The wine gums are a major success.”

Cloud 9 specialty bakery is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
